When I started university I hadn’t given too much thought to what I would do when I graduated. I looked into a couple of options towards the end of my course, but it was actually some friends who persuaded me to look into a career with Enterprise. They said it was a brilliant career path, so I looked on the website and decided to apply.
Initially I just wanted a graduate job and didn’t know much about Enterprise other than it’s a car hire company. Little did I realise that I’d soon be running my own business and having multiple opportunities to progress within a massive organisation. I was recently promoted to manager of one of the largest branches in Scotland.
It sounds a bit odd to say this, but I always look forward to getting up and going to work. I achieve so much in a day and no two days are ever the same. I couldn’t handle the monotony of a 9 to 5 office job. And it’s not just the job itself I love, it’s the people too. From my own staff, right up to the MD, everyone is lively and competitive and motivated by success.
I’ve definitely grown into my role as a leader. I’m more confident and outgoing than ever before and I’m always able to keep my staff happy, as well as motivated. It’s another cliché, but I don’t see problems anymore, just challenges and opportunities - and I feel like I can overcome anything. It’s my ambition to become the first female city manager in Scotland, and if I keep going the way I am, there’s no reason why I can’t achieve it.
